AVID is an elective class for college-bound students who will be learning strategies to help them be more successful in all of their classes. This course will stress the following: Cornell note-taking, outlining, writing, oral communication, reading, critical thinking, test-taking strategies, cooperative learning, and self-awareness. In addition, the course includes college and career motivational activities. The AVID Curriculum focuses on Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, and Reading (WICR) from the AVID Middle School Libraries and through both teacher and tutor led activities. Students are expected to be self-motivated and to have a strong desire to attend a four year college after high school graduation. Students who receive below a 2.0 grade point average (GPA), "D" or "F" grades, and/or who are making poor behavior choices are subject to probation or removal from the AVID program. All students and parents must sign the AVID contract in order to participate in the AVID program.
